LaPlace’s Law Demonstrator for Biot-Savart and Fleming’s Rule
by United Scientific
This apparatus is an excellent demonstration device for teachers for use in explaining and teaching Fleming’s left-hand rule, a simple way of expressing the direction of motion in an electric motor or the direction of electric current in an electric generator. The device consists of a base with two separate parallel conductors, a large U-shaped magnet that sits between them, and a conducting rod attached to a plastic disc, with two wire attachment points.
Typically, LaPlace’s Law refers to the Biot-Savart formula ( B=kI/a ), which describes the magnetic field that is generated by a current-carrying conductor. This teaching aide shows the direction of the force generated when a metal wire is placed in the magnetic field, in relation to the directions of the electric current passing through it and the external magnetic field.
This item comes with an extremely helpful activity guide.
