by American Educational Products
Coarse-grained, conglomerate is a clastic sedimentary rock. They tend to be composed of gravel-sized fragments that are held together by a matrix of sand, silt, clay, or some combination of the three, mixed together with things like calcium carbonate, iron oxide, silica, or hardened clay, to form it into a cement.
They are found to be deposited in a number of different sedimentary environments, from deepwater marine all the way to glacial environments. They have even been found on Mars, where they were noticed on an outrcropping that has been named as “Hottah”.
Each rock or mineral specimen measures approximately 1-2 inches in length along its longest side.
