Quartzite Rock – Pack of 2
by American Educational Products
A non-foliated metamorphic rock, Quartzite was originally pure quartz sandstone. It was converted into quartzite by means of heat and pressure, typically related to tectonic pressure. White to grey is the usually coloring of pure quartzite, with shades of pink and red appearing because of iron oxide impurities. Other impurities have imparted colors such as yellow, green, orange, and blue to the rock.
Its hard, and angular properties give crushed quartzite a use as railway ballast. The rock also makes appearances as roofing tiles, flooring, and stair steps. Harder and more resistant to stains than granite, it is rapidly gaining momentum for use as kitchen countertops.
Each rock or mineral specimen measures approximately 1-2 inches in length along its longest side.
