Epidote Sorosilicate Mineral – Pack of 2
by American Educational Products
Epidote is a sorosilicate mineral, meaning it has isolated double tetrahedra groups, that is formed from calcium aluminum iron. Its properties and characteristics, such as color, specific gravity, and opical constants, will vary due to the amount of iron that is present. Typically, the primary colors of Epidote are green, grey, brown, or black, with all of them having a shade of yellow-green or pistaschio green.
It occurs in marble and rocks that are metamorphic in origin, and is a known product of hydrothermal alteration of certain minerals. When mixed with quartz, it is known as Epidosite. When found in transparent, dark green crystals, typically in locations like Knappenwand, Austria, and in Brazil, epidote is cut into a gemstone.
Each rock or mineral specimen measures approximately 1-2 inches in length along its longest side.
