Halite Mineral – Pack of 2
by American Educational Products
A halide mineral because of its dominant halide anion, Halite is more commonly referred to as rock salt, and is a type of sodium chloride, or salt. It is typically found as a white, or colorless, mineral, though it is known to take on the colors light and dark blue, purple, pink, red, orange, yellow, or gray. Those colors depend on both the amount, and type, of impurities present within the halite.
It is known to occur in the dried beds of enclosed lakes, playas, and seas. It finds use as brine for managing ice on roads, as it has a lower freezing point than water. Halite rock salt is also used in turf production, and extensively in cooking to either flavor or cure meats.
Each rock or mineral specimen measures approximately 1-2 inches in length along its longest side.
