Even just the thought of yourself, or someone close to you, having cancer is scary. Almost every one of us has had our lives impacted in some way by this disease. In North America, cancer as a whole is now the second most common cause of death, after heart disease. Unlike some diseases, it doesn’t differentiate between gender, age, race, socio-economic status, or where you live in the world.

What makes cancer different, is that it isn’t really just one disease. In actuality, it is more than 100, each one with different causes and effects that can attack any part of the body. The one thing they share in common is that they all cause cellular division to go out of control. The factors that cause cancer to appear in a given population vary greatly from country to country, ranging from carcinogenic substances, to radiation, diet and air pollution.

This poster depicts 8 different types of cancers, and gives short explanations regarding them. Each one also has a picture of the cancer on a stained microscope slide.
