Four-Sided Friction Block

Made out of wood, the four-sided friction block measures 2×2″. It features 4 different friction surfaces: sandpaper, vinyl, paper, and wood. By incorporating these 4 surfaces, it eliminates the need to have multiple friction blocks, reducing storage space and taking up less time trying to change out from one block to another. The block allows for a visual display of the different frictional characteristics that can affect the force required to move a stationary body. It can be used in the demonstration of numerous different concepts that involve friction, from an inclined plane, to work, and mathematical calculations.

The block features a metal hook on one side, allowing it to be towed across a desired surface. Each side features a small hole with brass threads, allowing for the included threaded brass post to be attached for the purpose of adding slotted masses and increasing the weight of the block.
