Echinoid fossils have been found in rock strata dating back to the late Ordovician Period, about 450 million years ago. Echinoids are also known as sea urchins who still live in present day ocean waters around the globe. Echinoids are a member of the Echinoderm Group which include star fish and sand dollars; all of whom have pentameral (5 part) symmetry. This fossil Echinoid was found in rock strata believed to be from the Cretaceous Period from 145 to 65 million years ago.
