Within this kit, you will find everything that you need to create and study the Doppler effect on your own. The included guide will help to promote the study of frequency changes due to changes in movement. The kit includes a battery holder, alligator clips, and a buzzer. A single AA battery (not included) is required to complete the experiments in this kit.

Also known as the Doppler Shift, it is the change in frequency of a wave or other periodic event for an observer, moving relative to its source. Essentially, as the source of the waves gets closer to the observer, each new crest will be emitted closer than the previous wave. The time it takes for each new way to reach the observer is also decreased, which increases the frequency. The opposite is true as the source of the waves increases its distance to the observer.

The Doppler effect has been extremely useful throughout the world, and its principles can be found being applied in such things as both police and weather radars, astronomy, flow and vibration measurements, and perhaps the most critical in this day and age, medical imaging such as sonography and echocardiograms. One place you can observe this effect on a daily basis, is by listening to the sirens of an emergency vehicle as it passes you.
