Tiger’s Eye Mineral Gemstone Rock – Pack of 4

The only significant deposits of tiger’s eye that have been found in the world are in South Africa. Tiger’s eye aptly gets its name from the golden brown color and chatoyant appearance of the mineral that reflects light like the eye of a tiger.

Tiger’s eye was formed over a long period of time when the mineral crocidolite was replaced by the mineral quartz. Crocidolite’s crystal structure is fibrous. It is composed of magnesium, iron, sodium and silica. The delicate fibers of crocidolite can easily be separated by hand. When silica-rich solutions infiltrated the crystal fibers of crocidolite under the ground, quartz was deposited, taking the shape of the crystal fibers of crocidolite. The golden color of the tiger’s eye was caused by trace amounts of iron oxide. Tiger’s eye is used for making jewelry, carvings, and other art objects.
