This Willemite specimen is from Franklin, New Jersey and displays brilliant fluorescence when excited by shortwave ultraviolet light. When excited, the willemite crystals will emit a bright green color. Another fluorescent mineral that may be present in this rock is calcite, which will fluoresce red. Two other minerals can be found in these specimens, but do not fluoresce. These minerals are franklinite (black) and zincite (red). The rock may fluoresce with longwave UV but shortwave UV will give the best fluorescence.
