Fluorite is a mineral with a cubic crystal pattern, naturally forming hexahedrons and octahedrons. Fluorite comes in many different colors but the most popular are purple, green, and clear. Fluorite can sometimes fluoresce when exposed to ultraviolet light, usually emitting a bright blue light. The word “fluorescence” was named after this mineral when this UV-reactive, color-changing activity was first discovered.Â
