Chlorite Mineral – Pack of 10
by American Educational Products
Chlorite is part of the phyllosilicate minerals, coming from the Greek word phyllon, meaning leaf. The silicate tetrahedrals that comprise it form a series of parallel sheets. While its name is derived from the Greek word chloros, which means “green”, and is a reference to the minerals dominant color, Chlorite can also be found in yellow, red, or white, though it is rare.
Because it has a wide range of chemical composition, chlorite can be found throughout a wide range of conditions. It has appeared in both low and medium temperature metamorphic rocks, some igneous rocks, hydrothermal rocks, and even buried deep within sediment.
It is an extremely soft mineral, capable of being scratched or scored with nothing more than a finger nail. The powder that is created when scratched is green in color, and has an oily feeling when rubbed between ones fingers.
Each rock or mineral specimen measures approximately 1-2 inches in length along its longest side
