An anhydrous carbonate mineral, dolomite is also sedimentary carbonate rock that is made up predominantly by the mineral dolomite. It typically forms in the colors of white, tan, gray or pink.
It finds use in a number of applications, from ornamental stone to concrete aggregate. Dolomite is alternated with calcite limestone as a flux for the smelting of iron and steel. Within the realm of horticulture, it has been added as a pH buffer and source of magnesium, and in saltwater aquariums to buffer changes in the water’s pH.
Each rock or mineral specimen measures approximately 1-2 inches in length along its longest side.
