The concepts of electricity and circuits can be a rather difficult subject to teach. The components needed, while small and generally inexpensive by themselves, tend to grow in cost when you factor in 25+ students over a series of classes, per semester. Not only that, but putting a soldering iron into the hands of students is always a cause for safety concerns, and prototyping boards can be difficult for small, and big, hands. To that end, we bring you Electra Dough!

This is not your ordinary Play-Doh, which if you like surprises, can actually conduct electricity. The problem with using it, though, is that the moment you connect two pieces of it together, you overload the circuit and all your hard work is no longer working. Electra Dough solves this problem, and actually works -better- than the real thing. The conductive portion of the dough has half the resistance of the commercial version, and the specially formulated insulating Electra Dough is over 150x more resistant, making it a great insulator!

With Electra Dough, you’ll be able to learn about series and parallel circuits, and then build your own circuits. With the included LED lights, sound buzzer, and 9v battery connector, how creative can you get when designing your circuits? Without having to etch a traditional circuit board, the sky is the limit when it comes to creating with Electra Dough!

The individual kit contains 16oz of Conducting Dough, 7oz of Insulating Dough, a pair of leads, 1 9v battery connector, 4 LED’s, 1 buzzer, and an experiment guide that not only details step-by-step instructions, but also gives background information on why what is happening, is actually happening. Electra Dough is non-toxic, and made with food grade ingredients. While the insulating compound is free of wheat, gluten, and casein, the conducting dough does contain wheat gluten.
