Also called fluorspar, fluorite is made of calcium fluoride, and is a part of the halide minerals, due to having a dominant halide anion. Colorful in both visible and under ultraviolet light, fluorite is used for ornamental and lapidary uses. In the world of industry, if finds uses as a smelting flux, and certain kinds of glasses and enamels.

It is considered to be allochromatic, as elemental impurities can tint the color of the fluorite. Combined with it being found in an extremely wide range of colors, and it has the distinction of being known as the most colorful mineral in the world.

Each rock or mineral specimen measures approximately 1-2 inches in length along its longest side. Color of some rocks may vary from the picture. Fluorite naturally ranges in color from green to purple. Most rocks will fluoresce under a short wave or long wave UV blacklight.
