About 274 species of invertebrate animals called brachiopods live in the ocean waters. Since the Cambrian Era, which paleontologists estimate to have started 542 million years ago, there ware over 30,000 species of brachiopids that have lived.All but about 385 species have been extinct for millions of years and have been written about by studying their bi-valve fossil remains.
This fossilized creature was found in rock strata that is believed to be from the Devonian Period: 416 to 359 million years ago.
