Hornblende Mineral – Pack of 2
by American Educational Products
Hornblende is a complex inosilicate series of minerals, as well as an isomorphous mixture of three different silicate molecules: calcium-iron-magnesium, aluminium-iron-magnesium, and iron-magnesium. Because of that, and is not actually recognized as a mineral in its own right. Because it often contains manganese, titanium, sodium and potassium, hornblende got its name from a derivation of the German words horn and blenden, which means “to deceive”, because of its similar appearance to other minerals that are known to be metal-bearing ores.
Each rock or mineral specimen measures approximately 1-2 inches in length along its longest side.
