Information Card Included
Â
Desert Rose is a name given to rosette formations of the mineral gypsum (calcium sulfate dihydrate.) Gypsum is an evaporite, a sedimentary rock that forms at the bottom of shallow bodies of salt water that contain calcium and sulfur. The dissolved calcium and sulfur become concentrated as the water evaporates and then precipitates as gypsum. Gypsum becomes what is known as plaster of Paris after being heated and ground to a fine powder and is used in construction.
