Partial Immersion Dual Scale Glass Thermometer
with Anti-Roll Triangle in Plastic Case
-20°C to 110°C / 0°F to 230°F
Â
This dual scale partial immersion glass thermometer measures approximately 12 inches long and ranges from -20°C to 110°C / 0°F to 230°F with 1° etched increments. This student grade laboratory thermometer is filled with a safe red-colored kerosene mixture (no mercury), has an anti-roll triangle and comes enclosed in a plastic storage case. A small glass loop on the end can be used for hanging or suspending the thermometer. The outside diameter measures approximately 6 mm. For proper accuracy, this lab thermometer should only be submerged to 76mm mark.Â
The main difference between total and partial immersion is the method in which they are calibrated and how they are used. Thermometers calibrated for total immersion are accurate when the thermometer is immersed to the liquid level in the capillary. For example, if using a total immersion thermometer for measuring atmospheric temperature, semi-solids or liquids, the thermometer must be immersed to the tip or meniscus of the liquid column. Simply put, immerse the thermometer to the temperature point you are trying to measure. Thermometers calibrated for partial immersion are accurate when the thermometer is immersed to a specific depth, such as 76mm. Partial immersion is appropriate for any application where total immersion is impractical or impossible, as in a shallow water bath. Total immersion thermometers are generally considered to be more accurate than partial immersion thermometers.
