This Shortwave, Midwave, and Longwave Ultraviolet Light Set has everything you need to get started examining fluorescent mineral specimens. This comprehensive setup includes two enhanced 11 Watt UV Lamps: one Shortwave/Longwave UV Lamp & one Midwave/Longwave UV Lamp, one glossy, black acrylic light stand, a pack of 10 different fluorescent mineral rocks, and one pair of safety glasses. 

The high output UV lamps are easy and exciting to use. A lamp takes 3 D batteries (not included) and can be held with the included stand or the attached arm strap. The filtered shortwave and midwave fluorescent tubes are located at the bottom of the lamps, lengthwise. The longwave is a filtered LED located on the short side of the lamps. Batteries can be inserted from the opposite end of the lamp. Shortwave measures 254nm, midwave measures 307nm, and the longwave measures 365nm.

The stand is made from glossy, black acrylic. This stand is easy to put together and is specially designed just for the light included in this set. The stand is great to use indoors while examining fluorescent minerals; its dark, making it efficient for fluorescent mineral photography.

The 10 minerals included with the set measure approximately 1 to 2 inches or more in length. Most are nice sized chunks, but some run a little thinner than others. The specimens vary but commonly included minerals are: Willemite, Fluorite, Calcite, Chalcedony, and Hydrozincite. Fluorescence of minerals of the same type can vary depending on the location it was extracted from. For example, you may receive 3 different calcites; one may fluoresce blue under shortwave light while another fluoresces red or yellow. Examples of common minerals included are shown in the pictures. All mineral rocks are identified with a label and are bagged individually.

Because UV light can be very harmful, UV blocking safety glasses should always be worn to protect eyes from damage. We include one pair of safety glasses made of polycarbonate with purchase of the setup. The glasses filter 99.9% of harmful UV radiation. Avoid UV exposure to the eyes and skin.
