Botany, also known as plant science or plant biology, is the scientific study of plants, both big and small. Not only are they alive, but they do something that no other living thing is capable of doing: creating their own food via photosynthesis, as well as providing food for other forms of life such as animals and insects.

The eight images, taken from stained microscope slides, give you an opportunity to see cells when they are being used for food and water within the plant, as well as cells that are used for the creation of the stem or stalk of a plant. Each image has a brief description of the function of that particular type of plant cell.
