Thermoelectric Generator Demonstrator
Demonstrate the Seebeck Effect, Peltier Effect, and Thomson Effect
Demonstrate the direct conversion of heat energy to electrical energy and vice versa with this simple semiconductor-based device! A solid state Peltier Effect cooler is sandwiched between two aluminum legs and connected to an electric motor with a propeller and a pair of banana sockets, selectable by a switch. Passing a current through the device causes one leg to become warm and the other cold. The heat generated can be measured by immersing the legs in beakers of water and measuring the temperature changes. The effect is reversible, and immersing one leg in hot water and the other in cold generates a voltage (the Seebeck Effect) which can be used to drive the motor. Includes teaching guide. Ages 10+. Comes with two plastic 500mL cups. Device measures approximately 9.5 inches tall.
