With an absorption maximum of 494nm and an emission maximum of 521nm in water, fluorescent green, or fluorescein water solution, has a number of different uses, including microscopy, dye tracing, and the detection of latent blood stains in forensics and serology. Under normal light, the aqueous solution will be similar in appearance to that of an orange antifreeze, with a slight green tint around the edge of the meniscus, and will fluoresce a bright yellow-green color. It is a 0.1% aqueous solution.
