The 3D Magnetic Field Demonstrator and Lines of Force viewing set comes with two separate cases that are filled with magnetic filings. It also includes a bar magnet, u-shaped magnet, and a cylindrical magnet.

The 3D field demonstrator is a pair of hinged chambers, with the cylindrical magnet resting between the halves. When the chambers are joined together and inverted, most of the iron filings in both sides will attach themselves to the magnet, according to the magnetic fields. Once they are separated, the filings in the side without the magnet will fall, while the others will remain attached to the magnet. This easy to see reaction with this field demonstrator makes understanding the lines of magnetic force much easier, and simpler, to both demonstrate and understand.

The second case is made of acrylic, and is filled with clear oil. The iron filings float in the oil, and will orient themselves according to the magnetic forces of any magnetic object that is placed beneath the case. Because it is easy to se through, and flat, it is perfect for use with overhead projectors. It comes complete with a teacher’s guide.
