Pendulum Wave Demonstration Kit for Physics
by American Scientific
With a series of 25mm steel balls evenly spaced out and each one suspended from a curved acrylic beam by varying lengths of line, the pendulum wave is a captivating demonstration for all ages of students. Nine balls in total hang from the beam, and when pulled back and released simultaneously by the initiator stick, will swing back and forth to form a wave pattern and cycle through different phases at they visually simulate different phases, beats and frequencies due to the varying lengths at which they are suspended.
The pendulum wave demonstrator needs to be assembled before use, which will take approximately 20-30 minutes. Set-up of the frame is exceptionally easy, with only the two end pieces and the center rail. The area that takes the most amount of time will be setting up the steel balls, as they are not attached. While the pendulum line is pre-cut, they are all uniform. Each one will need to be appropriately adjusted, using the included assembly and teacher’s guide as a point of reference.
When put together, the acrylic frame measures 18.75×9.25×23.5″ (HxWxL). Please note that the height is measured from the tallest point of the assembled wave demonstrator. We also have a smaller, wood and chrome version of the pendulum wave demonstrator available.
With its clear acrylic frame, the wave demonstrator could easily be used as an art installation, like the one built in the mountains of North Carolina by a professor and artist from Appalachian State University.
