The 11 Watt Midwave and Longwave Lamp is recommended for the serious mineral collector.  The majority of minerals that fluoresce when exposed to ultraviolet light require shortwave to activate, but there are species that will fluoresce under midwave and/or longwave light opposed to shortwave. Some minerals fluoresce a different color under shortwave, midwave, and longwave. An example of a mineral with this property is Calcite from Mexico (shown in pictures.) When exposed to shortwave, this calcite emits a light blue color. When exposed to midwave, it emits yellow. When exposed to longwave, it emits a pink-red hue. ÂÂ
This lamp includes an 11W midwave fluorescent bulb behind a special optical filter (the long side) and a longwave LED behind an optical filter (the short side.) The high quality filters on this lamp block all visible light that may interfere with a mineral’s fluorescence. The light can be switched between midwave and longwave with ease.  An arm strap is attached to the lamp to prevent accidental drops. The UV lamp takes 3 D batteries. This UV lamp comes with a pair of safety glasses made of polycarbonate to filter out 99.9 percent of harmful UV radiation and a sample of fluorescent mineral rock specimens.
