These sandstone specimens measure approximately 1.5 inches x 2 inches. Sandstone is a sedimentary rock formed by the action of wind, water, and ice on older rock. It is composed of sand-like crystals of quartz cemented together by silica, lime or iron oxide. Formed in or near ancient seas, sandstone may contain fossilized sea animals. It is usually banded with brown and tan colors. One of the many wonders of nature, your sample may differ in size, color and shape from the one pictured. Ages 6 and up.
